Pay Range

$106,600.00-$146,600.00 Annual

This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire.   Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus. 

The Senior Research Engineer is responsible for the development of new synthetic nonwoven products and processes for Johns Manville which will lead to increased sales and will strengthen JM’s competitive advantage.

Your Day to Day:

  • Leading moderate to long-term product development projects resulting in moderate to significant business advantages for JM. This includes conducting research, designing and running pilot/plant trials, providing support to plant and production, qualifying products, and performing project management functions
  • Developing patents, trade secrets and/or other intellectual property that provides strategic business advantages for JM
  • Leading new product commercialization through multi-stage development, including code approval, plant trials, product specifications and transition to operations
  • Interacting with customers and providing voice of the customer feedback to the team
  • Performing other related duties assigned may be required

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of engineering of science and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in the materials or nonwovens industry, preferably in spunbond related processes
  • Master's degree or PhD preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of statistics, proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and ability to make data-driven decisions and recommendations
  • Ability to make compelling cases for technical recommendations to a business
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to choose alternatives and to modify methods, designs, and general practices
  • Communication skills - interpersonal, verbal, written and presentations
  • Proven project management (i.e., Stage-Gate ™) and leadership skills
  • Proven analytical and quality improvement ability
  • Proficiency in patent search & analytical platforms
  • Ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative environment
  • Ability to interface at all levels of internal and external organizations
  • Moderate travel required (25%-35%)
  • The work environment is typical of a research and development facility. When working in a plant, the Sr. Research Engineer may be exposed to environmental conditions (cold, heat, humidity), high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, and may be required to do extensive walking or climbing
  • Some activities may require lifting, carry, push, or pull up to and including 25 pounds
